Right to record police at stake in Arizona lawsuit

The American Civil Liberties Union is challenging an Arizona law that makes it a misdemeanor to shoot footage of police in action closer than eight feet without an officer’s permission. The lawsuit said the law was ambiguous in part, and critics claimed the law would be used to stifle the established First Amendment right to record police in action. The ACLU joined with 10 media organizations in filing the lawsuit. “At a time when the public is demanding police accountability, Arizona wants to criminalize the public’s most effective tool for shining a light on police violence,” said Jared Keenan, legal director of the ACLU of Arizona. “This law is not only unconstitutional, it is bad public policy.” (ACLU, August 23, 2022, press release)

  • I think this is stupid police can go around and do what they want and we can’t even record them to have proof of what they do. They go around in our neighbor hoods killing and injuring people and were the ones who get the consiquence. I think every time someone gets killed by a police officer the officer should serve life in prison. The police can suck my fucking dick. Go to hell you peace of shit people. YOUR NOT GOD!!
