California TV reporter assaulted while reporting drug overdose

While reporting on fentanyl overdoses in Chico, California, TV reporter Meaghan Mackey was physically and verbally attacked, ending her live-stream report. She was not injured seriously. Mackey was working for Redding’s KRCR television station and relased this statement after the attack: “Thank you to anyone who has reached out or expressed their concerns. I appreciate your kind words of support. I will not live in fear of doing my job. I value the freedom of the press & will continue to report on the truth and inform the public, even during times of tragedy.” (San Jose Mercury News, January 15, 2019, by George Kelly)
