The New York Times editorial board, March 4, 2023, writes that Florida under Governor Ron DeSantis is backing a law that threatens free speech rights of the citizens and news outlets. The law would strip protections afforded by Times v. Sullivan and makes it easier to sue for unintentional errors in criticizing public officials.
The law also ends the journalist’s privilege protecting journalists from having to reveal their sources. The law would make it make it more difficult to hold politicians and office holders to account. (techdirt, February 28, 2023, by Mike Masnick)
