Murdoch warns Trump on big lie

News Corp’s Rupert Murdoch chastised former President Donald Trump for pounding the lie that he won the 2021 election. “The current American political debate is profound, whether about education or welfare or economic opportunity. It is crucial that conservatives play an active, forceful role in that debate, but that will not happen if President Trump stays focused on the past. The past is the past, and the country is now in a contest to define the future,”said Murdoch. (Deadline, November 17, 20212, by Jill Goldsmith)

Bloomberg’s Timothy L. O’Brien, The Washington Post, November 18, 2021, points out that the past is not really the past because Murdoch’s companies “revel in reshaping it and bending reality to serve purposes other than the truth.” As chair of News Corp and Fox News with his family owing major chunks of both companies, Murdoch could do much more to curb Trump. “To get Trump and his cultists to change their stripes,” writes O’Brien, “he could stop allowing some of Fox’s most influential anchors and broadcasters to spew poisonous talking points.”
