Big lies: Judge excoriates Trump lawyers for misuse of court

Federal district Judge Linda Parker of Michigan slammed Sidney Powell and other lawyers who brought lawsuits challenging the results of the 2020 presidential election. She recommended sanctions as a deterrent to lawsuits “designed primarily to spread the narrative that our election processes are rigged and our democratic institutions cannot be trusted.” (CNN, August 26, 2021, by Tierney Sneed with contributions by Paula Reid and Devan Cole))

Parker said many of the lawsuits claims were “fantastical,” not based on evidence or law and dominated by “speculation, conjecture and unwarranted suspicion.” (The New York Times, August 25, 2021, by Alan Feur)

Parker ordered the lawyers to pay for legals fees in the case and take courses in election law. She referred the lawyers’ poor practices to licensing authorities in states where the lawyers work for possible suspension or disbarment. (Bloomberg News, August 25, 2021, by Erik Larson)
