Fox under fire as conduit of false news about pandemic

Journalism professors addressed a letter to Fox News to stop disseminating false information about the pandemic. In a letter to Fox CEO Lachlan Murdoch, the professors said Fox was violating core principles of journalism and enabling the spread of the coronavirus. Seventy-four academics and journalists signed the letter as of last week. The letter said, “The basic purpose of news organizations is to discover and tell the truth. This is especially necessary, and obvious, amid a public health crisis.” (Newsweek, April 2, 2020, by James Walker)

A Washington state advocacy group filed a lawsuit against Fox to block its airing of inaccuracies about the pandemic. Arthur West of the League for Increased Transparency and Ethics said there are many who believe the Fox reports that the pandemic is a hoax. He also said Fox got in the way of the implementation of social distancing needed to save lives. (Times of San Diego, April 2, 2020, by Ken Stone)
