Unlocking Public Records in California

Improve your reporting by learning how to use California law, including the Public Records Act and the state’s new police transparency provisions, to find out information about companies and people you cover. Get tips and tricks from an open-government lawyer, who will answer your questions and share strategies for extracting records from tight-fisted government agencies. The session will feature real-world scenarios and teachable lessons from recent court cases, including ideas for accountability reporting inspired by the #MeToo movement.

Featuring:
David Snyder, executive director of the First Amendment Coalition, a media lawyer and former Washington Post reporter who regularly counsels journalists and members of the public on open-government and free-speech concerns.

Date: Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with Q&A
Place: San Francisco City College, 50 Frida Kahlo Way, San Francisco, CA
Media Room 304, Third Floor, Rosenberg Library
