Lara Logan story points to need for greater protections for women on assignment

In an opinion piece in Mother Jones, Mac McClelland writes that the dangers women face covering volatile events in distant lands have for various reasons been neglected. The Lara Logan sexual assault in Egypt is but the latest of a number of frightening incidents.

McClelland supports current efforts to include a section on sexual harassment and assault in the Committee to Protect Journalist’s “Journalist Safety Guide.” -db

  • It took women and 20 Egyptian soldiers to rescue Lara. There is no mention about men rescuing this defenseless woman! I suppose they were too engrossed in raping and beating Lara Logan.

    Is this the new dawn breaking for freedom in Egypt that the international media is gushing over? May God bless and protect all those journalists, particularly women, working in the field.

    Many among us are aware of the plight of women in such countries that are the epicenter of warped religious aficionados and skewered views of what women represent, e.g. a receptacle for the male libido and a breeding machine, nothing more.

    I shall pray for you, Lara Logan, that you will continue to be in the line of fire to report the insanity of humanity that we see unfolding. May you continue to be a beacon light for the empowerment of women around the world.
