Transparency bill for public utilities dies in California state legislature

A catastrophic Pacific Gas and Electric 2010 pipeline explosion in San Bruno, CA that killed eight and wiped out 35 homes did not provide sufficient fuel for a transparency measure that required utility regulators to supply investigation orders and accident reports to the public. Agency investigating GSA for travel fraud refusing to release records

The office of the Inspector General for the General Services Administration has refused a Freedom of Information Act request for documents on their investigation of GSA travel fraud saying to release the documents would jeopardize the investigation. Federal court shields Google/NSA partnership from public scrutiny

The U.S. Court of Appeals from D.C. ruled that interchanges between Google and the National Security Agency on cybersecurity and encryption are not part of the public record. California: Shasta courts admits error and releases records of 2400 criminal cases

At the insistence of The Redding Record Searchlight that records of some 2400 criminal cases were being withheld illegally, the Shasta County Superior Court finally examined their policy, found no basis for it and released the records. Federal judge backs Obama in his refusal to release bin Laden photos

President Barack Obama won a battle in federal court this week when the judge rejected a request from Judicial Watch to force the administration to release photos and video of the operation that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan last year.
