The Star Tribune plans to increase the numbers of reporters in such cities as Mankato, Duluth and St. Cloud. The publisher and chief executive Steve Grove, a Minnesota native, is counting on civic pride to buoy the newspaper’s bold initiative. “It’s the state that has the highest civic participation in the country, the highest rates of philanthropy,” said Grove. “It’s got this civic backbone to it that’s unique.” (The New York Times, August 18, 2024, by Katie Robertson)
