Democrats taking hard look at Section 230

The Democratic platform for the 2024 election stipulates that Section 230 that protects platforms from legal liability for user content must be revised to make sure platforms take responsibility for content. (The Washington Post, August 20, 2024, by Christiano Lima-Strong)

Bobbie Johnson in the MIT Technology Review, February 8, 2021 writes that the Safe Tech Act introduced by Democratic senators in 2021 called for ending immunity for online speech violating civil rights laws. Law professor Eric Goldman said at the time that the law would probably force big companies to improve their policing of content but have the effect of making it more difficult for smaller companies to compete.
