Americans favor restricting false information online

Recent years has seen a significant increase in the numbers of Americans who want the federal government to restrict false information online, from 39 percent in 2018 to 55 percent in 2023. But more Americans are in favor of tech companies restricting false information, an increase from 56 percent in 2018 to 65 percent in 2023. By a wide margin more Democrats favor restrictions on online false information, 70 percent, than Republicans, 39 percent.
