Trump courting trouble in generating phony Taylor Swift endorsement

Presidential candidate Donald Trump posted a fake Taylor Swift endorsement – “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.” Swift recently urged her millions of followers to vote against Trump. There is legal precedent in allowing candidates to lie in political ads, and new state laws against election deepfakes do not cover implausible postings. That would not preclude Swift suing Trump for violating her right of publicity, the right to control the use of her name and image. (Billboard, August 19, 2024, by Bill Donahue)
