Biden acts quickly to restore Voice of America

President Joe Biden wasted no time in replacing Trump allies running the Voice of America. With the blessing of the Trump administration the VOA leadership was engaged in reassigning, demoting and firing staff for what employees said were political reasons. Biden fired Michael Pack, head of the VOA oversight agency, who was instrumental in allegedly attempting to make the VOA and other U.S.-owned networks into Trump propaganda instruments. The VOA is charged with representing the best of U.S. values but their news and commentary is independent of government control. Biden named Kelu Chao as Pack’s replacement. Chao had filed a whistleblower lawsuit against Pack to protest the attempted removal of six senior executives. (The Washington Post, January 21, 2021, by Paul Farhi)
