Wikileaks release of CIA document poses problems for press

The FBI has begun to investigate the source of the leak of thousands of documents from the CIA that revealed classified information on the agency’s cyberspying capabilities. Wikileaks released the documents after which the CIA issued a rare statement saying the release had aided our enemies and that the CIA did not engage in illegal spying on individuals in the U.S. President Donald Trump is on the record for saying he loves Wikileaks, but White House spokesman Sean Spicer said the release should inspire public outrage. Contrary to their usual practice, Wikileaks did not just dump the documents but included a press release with analysis of key findings and answers to frequently asked questions part of which speaks directly to journalists. Journalists are challenged to make sure all the documents are authentic and to assess the origin of the leaks and possible motives if foreign powers are doing the hacking.
