Google leads transparency fight over government requests for user data

Google is leading the internet industry in battling the U.S. government to protect user information in digital vaults. Google is releasing regular transparency reports with its latest report on July 18 to reveal how the government is spying on citizens. The latest transparency report shows that government requests to Google have been rising, up 120 percent since 2009. The government made 12,523 requests for user data from July to December of 2015. Google provided data 64 percent of the time worldwide, with the percentage granted stateside at 79 percent. (Slash Gear, July 19, 2016, by Eric Abent)
