Critics not impressed with Obama’s stab at transparency over drone strikes

President Barack Obama released new information about lethal drone strikes in an attempt to create greater transparency . The administration said 116 civilians were victims of the strikes in countries where the U.S. is not at war, a figure greater than previously admitted. (Yahoo New Digest, July 5, 2016)

Critics were unhappy with the disclosures claiming that the numbers seemed far too conservative. Others have pegged them at between 380 and 801. Also most strikes have been made in Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria, not covered by the administration’s estimate. (Common Dreams, July 1, 2016, by Deirdre Fulton)
