Trump antics pose threat to free press

“No leading presidential candidate — perhaps ever — has been as dismissive, belittling or as downright hostile to the people who follow him on the campaign trail as Trump [Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump].” writes Paul Farhi in The Washington Post, February 4, 2016. Trump’s hostility towards and bullying of journalists has encouraged his supporters to target reporters especially women.

Reporters Without Borders has objected to the way Trump bashes reporters saying Trump “has brought his grudge match with the media to a dangerous level for freedom of the press.”  (CNN, January 29, 2016, by Ahiza Garcia)

Representatives from TV news convened in November to discuss Trump’s treatment of the press including access to those attending Trump events.
Concerns have also been raised about retaliation against reporters for publishing views Trump finds unsympathetic. (Politico, November 23, 2015, by Hadas Gold)
