Journalists assail mystery purchase of Las Vegas Review-Journal

Who bought The Las Vegas Review-Journal? The mystery continues as journalists at the newspaper try to discover who is behind a recently incorporated company, the News + Media Capital Group,  that paid $140 million in the sale. Concerns about the newspaper’s editorial independence surfaced as the new owners stopped the presses last week to alter a story about the sale and the new ownership. Workers at the paper are protesting the lack of transparency in the sale as a violation of journalistic ethics. (MetaFilter, December 14, 2015)

Esther Thorson of the Missouri School of Journalism thinks the sale makes no sense business-wise so the newspaper may have been acquired to convey political messages.
