Federal judge rules California man allowed to film police chief free of threat

A federal judge ruled that the Cotati, California police chief violated a man’s free speech rights when he threatened him with arrest for videotaping him after a city council meeting. (Courthouse News Service, October 26, 2015, by Nicholas Iovino)

The judge ruled that George Barich was within his rights to film a government official in a public space. The judge noted that since 1990 it has been against the law for police to retaliate against citizens exercising their free speech rights.
