California: Citrus College settles lawsuit over free speech zone

Citrus College agreed to a settlement with a student threatened for collecting signatures outside the school’s free speech zone on a petition against federal domestic spying. The school paid $110,000 to Vincenzo Sinapi-Riddle and extended the free speech zone to most open areas on campus. As part of the settlement Citrus College revised their definition of verbal harassment in alignment with the First Amendment. Sinapi-Riddle also complained that there was a long and convoluted approval process for student organizations who wished to hold a campus event to express their viewpoints.
