Staggering cost for reporters to join Obama’s Asia trip

Reporters assigned to cover President Barack Obama’s November trip to Asia will have to fork out $60,000 to ride on the press charter airplane. The cost for the nine-day tour does not include hotel, meals or the rental of space used to file stories. With a lame duck president and fewer journalists signing up for the trip, costs escalate. News organizations also hold back reporters because the administration limits access to the president increasing tension between the press and the administration. (U.S. News & World Report, October 31, 2014, by Kenneth T. Walsh)
