Tech companies want more transparency in national security requests

An alliance of tech companies and civil liberties advocates sent a letter to the federal government asking it to allow Internet and telephone companies to report national security requests in greater detail including the number of government requests, the number of individuals, accounts or devices involved and the number of requests seeking content and subscriber information.  (All Things D, July 17, 2013, by John Paczkowski)

The letter is noteworthy as it is signed by nearly all of the companies covered by PRISM, the National Security Agency’s secret surveillance program. The companies back the public’s right to information so they can engage in intelligent debate over privacy and security issues. The companies also want to maintain a high level of trust with their clients. (TheNextWeb, July 18, 2013, by Nick Summers)
