Status of WikiLeaks key in Manning trial

The defense in the trial of Bradley Manning’s court martial trial raised the question of whether WikiLeaks was media to construct the argument that Manning and WikiLeaks were providing information to the public rather than undermining national security. (GigaOM, July 10, 2013, by Mathew Ingram)

The defense called a Harvard professor, Yochai Benkler, to testify that WikiLeaks was performing the role of journalists in publishing information about misconduct by corporations and government. Benkler is on record arguing that the charges against Manning threaten investigative journalism. (The New York Times, July 10, 2013, by Charlie Savage)
