Alarm over conservative’s call for muzzling press on Snowden

Congressman Peter King (R-NY) was so incensed with Edward Snowden’s release of classified intelligence records that he wants to punish any reporters who disclose classified information. While he says he respects the free press, in unusual circumstances, reports could jeopardize CIA operatives around the world and put American’s lives at risk. Investigative journalist and former CIA operative Frank Snepp says that King’s comments should be heeded as a harbinger of what could be in store for reporters attempting to report leaks from the intelligence community. They could be prosecuted under espionage laws and if Julian Assange is convicted, things could be different for reporters. (CNN, July 3, 2013, by Frank Snepp)
