Connecticut law student arrested for harassing comments

A University of Connecticut law student has been arrested for allegedly making racist, anti-Semitic and violent threats against professors. She initially courted trouble by sending an e-mail to the student bar association, “Let’s celebrate diversity by having the next dean NOT be Jewish.” When police checked Anya Bargh’s Flickr account they found dolls in graphic sexual positions, mutilated with fake blood and messages naming law professors.  (JD Journal, May 1, 2013, by Andrew Ostler)

Some professors feel threatened by the messages and feel that Bargh had libeled them. (Above the Law, April 30, 2013, by Joe Patrice)

Eugene Volokh argued that most of Bargh’s statements were protected speech but noted that comments like “honestly, peter, I hate you so much I would like to see you butchered and shit out like dog food” were suspect. Volokh also speculated that Bargh might have some mental health issues. (The Volokh Report, May 3, 2013) -db
