Federal court: Impersonating police officer not protected by First Amendment

A man stopped for speeding who tried to get out of a ticket by saying he was a sheriff’s deputy lost his bid to claim his First Amendment rights were violated by his conviction for impersonating an officer.

The court affirmed, as the U.S. Supreme Court stated in U.S. v. Alvarez, that not all lies are protected speech. -db
