Federal appeals court rejects St. Louis sign ordinance

The 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled that a St. Louis law violated the First Amendment rights of citizens. The law prohibited signs that might impede traffic.

“The ordinance criminalizes activity based primarily on often unpredictable reactions of third parties rather than directly on a person’s own actions, and it excessively chills protected First Amendment activity,” wrote the three-judge panel in a unanimous decision. -db
