    Can I be charged for postage for CPRA requested documents?

    […] the County Clerk asking for postage (I ask to have the documents e-mailed). Looking online, state agencies presumably charge for postage. I have made requests from other state agencies but I don't think they have charged me postage for items sent. I know local government folks state they can't charge for postage.  So, can I be charged for postage?

    Costs soar for City Council meeting DVDs

    […] Does this extend to DVDs as well? It appears we are being charged staff time, so DVDs now cost $18each. Previously I was able to get them free by bringing in a blank DVD disc, which is of minimal cost to me. I can deal with $5, but $18 permeeting DVD is much too steep.

    Can a public agency demand research fees on a public records request?

They cited Government Code Section 54985 as permitting them to charge this fee. Does this in fact permit them to charge a research fee?

    Reporters wrongly ejected from community college council meeting?

    I am working on a story about how two of our reporters were ejected from a college council meeting. The chair of the committee believes that their body is not subject to the Brown Act. This committee makes planning, budget and policy recommendations to the college president.
