Does the CPRA allow use of iPhone to photograph public records?

The County Recorders Office prohibits the use of hand scanners or digital cameras in its Public Documents room and requires researchers to purchase document copies from them. Is this restriction legal ?

Can my city require six days notice for a permit to picket or is that prior restraint?

The city has drafted a new ordinance that requires six days notice and a permit to picket or demonstrate on main drags, and two-to-four days on smaller ones. Is this a violation of free speech rights?

CPRA request denied for city employee’s college grades

[…] an employee reimbursement education program for college credits. Part of the city’s requirement for reimbursement is a minimum C grade. I made a public records request for the elected City Clerk and I’m told her grades are confidential by some Federal Statute. She has objected to my obtaining this information. Is she protected from disclosure?

CPRA ten-day deadline for request responses: Is that business days or calendar days?

Regarding the CPRA's mandate that an agency must respond to a request within 10 days, FAC and other groups claim this means calendar days, not working days. Is there some compelling basis for this belief?

In Texas, town hall meeting nixed videotaping

Is there an equivalent of a Brown Act for Texas? I was at a Congressional town hall meeting, and a member of the Congresswoman's staff told me I was not allowed to video record the meeting. Is that legal?
