    Providing Requestor’s Name, Personal Information

[…] agency may need to know where (and to whom) to send the records. In addition, if the agency is attempting to determine whether to withhold records under Government Code section 6255, on the ground that the public interest in non-disclosure clearly outweighs the public interest in disclosure, it may want to know who is […]

    Political Reform Act case records

I asked our District Attorney for information allowed by Gov Code 6254 (f)(2) on Political Reform Act cases. She gave only closed cases, saying giving me anything on open cases would endanger the investigation. Do you agree?

    Personal attacks in public meetings

In a closed session meeting, under The Brown Act, do the normal rules of order and decorum apply? This is fully reasonable if the agency tells the requestor the amount owed, and requires payment, before the documents are photocopied. However, I just heard a […]

    Mayor’s appearance calendar

A local activist says that the Mayor and City Attorney "have both sent me letters refusing to divulge the mayor's calendar of scheduled May appearances as Mayor and/or his appointment book of meetings as Mayor for the past two months." Is this legal under Prop 59?

Inspect vs. Request, and Proposals as Public Records

I'd like to know if proposals made to cities in response to a request for proposals are public records. Also, I've heard that there is no 10-day waiting period if someone simply asks to inspect a record, and does not ask for copies in a PRA. Is that true?

Electronic Filing of Campaign Disclosure Data

After about a year of advocacy, I have convinced the city to adopt campaign finance e-filing and publishing of campaign finance disclosure data on the city's website.  But the city council has directed the city clerk to redact campaign contributor street addresses in the online data.  However, unredacted disclosure data will continue to be […]
