San Rafael, Calif. – The Skyline Foundation has committed $300,000 to the First Amendment Coalition over the next three years. This generous grant will strengthen FAC’s legal support for journalists across California and bolster the organization’s capacity to defend free speech and government transparency.

“We are immensely grateful to the Skyline Foundation for its support and shared commitment to protecting democracy through transparency and a free press,” says FAC Executive David Snyder. “Our current political climate makes FAC’s work even more essential. We look forward to helping even more Californians with this financial support.”

The funding comes at a time of rising demand for FAC’s services, as journalists and members of the public face mounting challenges accessing information and holding power to account. The grant will help expand FAC’s ability to provide legal support, advocate for government accountability, and build long-term organizational sustainability.

“The Skyline Foundation is proud to support FAC as it expands its vital services across California,” says Jenny Montoya Tansey, Skyline Foundation Program Lead, Just Democracy. “Our mission is rooted in ensuring equitable access to news and information—especially for communities that have long been underserved. FAC is a trusted partner in advancing this mission, helping to meet the growing needs of local journalists who often work with limited resources to serve overlooked communities throughout the state.”
