The First Amendment Coalition is pleased to welcome Khrystan Nicole Policarpio as a legal fellow.
Policarpio earned her law degree from UC Davis School of Law in 2022. Her achievements in law school include being recognized as a member of the Order of Barristers for her excellence in oral advocacy, serving as the vice chair of the Moot Court Honors Board and as the managing articles editor for the Social Justice Law Review. She also served as an oralist from 2020-2022 on the Jessup International Moot Court Competition team. She is the co-author of, “Together But Unequal: How the COVID-19 Pandemic Exacerbated the Inequities Harming Minority Law Students.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Khrystan to the team as we continue to expand our work,” said FAC Legal Director David Loy. “During law school, Khrystan gained excellent experience inside and outside the classroom that make her a great asset to the organization.”
Policarpio’s work at FAC focuses on expanding access to public records and government meetings, and defending freedom of speech and freedom of the press.
In addition to assisting FAC attorneys with litigating cases in court, Policarpio participates in drafting amicus briefs and advocacy letters, analyzing public policy, updating legal guides used by the public and conducting research as part of the FAC free Legal Hotline.
Her previous legal experience includes legal internships with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Brennan Center for Justice, ACLU Foundation of Northern California, Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the Sacramento County Office of the Public Defender.
Before law school, Policarpio served as a second-grade teacher and worked on educational equity issues.
She is a first-generation college graduate and received her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 2013.
Policarpio is not licensed to practice law. She is applying for membership to the California Bar.
