SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The First Amendment Coalition is pleased to welcome Elizabeth Sanchez as a legal fellow.
Elizabeth graduated from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in 2023, where she was an associate editor of the Journal of Law and Social Policy. During law school, she pursued her interest in media law through positions at Boston Globe Media Partners, The Markup, and The Center for Investigative Reporting (Reveal).
Prior to law school, Elizabeth attended the University of New Mexico, where she served as the editor-in-chief of the student publication, The Daily Lobo. Elizabeth graduated from UNM with a Bachelor of Arts in multimedia journalism and Spanish in 2018.
Elizabeth is joining us following her position as a First Amendment Fellow with The Intercept, where she provided support on Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) advocacy and other newsroom matters.
“FAC is thrilled to welcome Elizabeth. In this difficult landscape for the press, her newsroom experience with both legal and editorial issues is perfectly suited as FAC expands its portfolio to help even more journalists and independent news operations,” says FAC’s Legal Director, David Loy.
Elizabeth joins FAC as it expands its work increasing access to public records and government meetings, and defending freedom of speech and freedom of the press. She will draft amicus briefs and advocacy letters, help operate FAC’s free Legal Hotline, and assist with FAC attorneys’ litigation.
Elizabeth Sanchez is not licensed to practice law in the state of California. She is applying for membership to the California Bar.
