With the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE), FAC sent the following letter to the Los Angeles City Council on behalf of Stacey Segarra-Bohlinger, a Los Angeles resident who was expelled from a city council meeting in December 2025 for violating Council Rule 7, which prohibits members of the public from uttering the n-word or c-word during the public comment portions of public meetings.
The letter asserts Council Rule 7 violates the First Amendment and the Brown Act, the state’s open meetings law, and if the council does not repeal or stop enforcing the ban, the groups will sue.
