FAC led a press coalition in opposing a proposal before the Berkeley City Council to eliminate public access to police radio communications. The proposal would reverse the city’s 2021 commitment to keep general channels open to the press and public. “Silencing all police radio traffic would eliminate a critical newsgathering tool and ultimately leave residents of Berkeley less informed about important issues of public concern,” FAC Advocacy Director Ginny LaRoe said in a letter joined by the Society of Professional Journalists and the Pacific Media Workers Guild NewsGuild-CWA Local 39521.
