Letter to City Council of Huntington Beach Regarding Ban on Anonymous Complaints

On December 19, 2022, FAC and the ACLU of Southern California sent a letter to the City Council of Huntington Beach opposing Mayor Tony Strickland’s proposal to ban anonymous complaints to city code enforcement. Among other things, the letter points out that the right anonymous speech is protected by the First Amendment.

On December 20, the council voted to further consider the proposal at a public meeting. According to Voice of OC, the City Attorney will propose specific guidelines at a future meeting.
