A message from Executive Director David Snyder
A global pandemic. Journalists under attack. A nationwide cry for social justice and police accountability. This past year’s extraordinary events highlighted like never before the importance of FAC’s work combatting government secrecy and standing up for free speech, a free press and the public’s right to know.
With your support, FAC has mobilized to protect these rights — to make a healthier democracy possible by:
- Ensuring public access to court proceedings, despite COVID-19 shutdowns
- Training journalists and lawyers to help ensure government transparency and free-press rights
- Exposing thousands of pages of police misconduct records, part of our broader fight for police transparency and accountability
But there is much more work to be done. To meet the growing need for FAC’s work, we have launched our first-ever $1 million annual fundraising campaign — the FAC for All Campaign. Thanks to supporters like you, we have already secured nearly $800,000 toward our goal.
Reaching this goal will ensure we can expand our resources to respond to an unprecedented number of requests for information via our free Legal Hotline; support more journalists through our open-government workshops; put essential tools in the hands of activists and advocates working to hold governments accountable; and strengthen our ability to advocate for policies and laws governing your rights under the First Amendment.
