Truth hard to come by in reporting on president’s health

Journalists covering President Donald Trump’s hospitalization for treatment of Covid-19 face challenges as the president prevaricates and the doctors attempt to provide information acceptable to Trump’s team. White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows issued an off-the-record statement about the president’s condition contradicting the rosy judgment from White house doctor Sean Conley that the president was “doing very well.” The event prompted a scrabble among the news media for clarification and detail behind Meadows’ assessment, “The president’s vitals over the last 24 hours were very concerning and the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of his care. We’re still not on a clear path to a full recovery.” (The Washington Post, October 3, 2020, by Sarah Ellison)
