National Security Archive critical of Justice Department redactions of Mueller report

The National Security Archive at The George Washington University, April 22, 2019, finds fault with the excessive redactions made by the Justice Department of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The archive points to the example of Robert Stone, references to whom are meticulously omitted. The archive writes that it is most troubling that the report reveals that President Donald Trump is dismissive of record-keeping in general, a dangerous practice in a democracy.

The Justice Department made four categories of redactions to the Mueller report, grand jury material; grand jury, harm to ongoing matter, investigative technique and personal privacy. About a dozen of the pages in the report were fully redacted with about  a third of the entire report containing at least one redaction. Most of the redactions occurred at the first part of report dealing with Russian interference and the Internet Research Agency. (BuzzFeed News, April 18, 2019, by Nidhi Prakasha0)
