Critics hit New York Times for withdrawing Stephen Miller interview

The New York Times withdrew a podcast of an interview with President Donald Trump’s domestic policy adviser, Stephen Miller, after the White House asked the Times not to run it since they were unaware it would run on podcast. Some of the interview was on the record, and it was unclear why the Times agreed to the request. Times reporter Julie Davis interviewed Miller, known to have white supremacist leanings, about the Trump family separation policy. (Splinter, June 19, 2018, by David Uberti)

Many in the press criticized the Times decision, accusing it of weakness during a time requiring aggressive reporting on the nefarious separation of children and parents. Others thought it was understandable for the Times to withdraw the podcast to protect access to senior White House officials. (Columbia Journalism Review, June 20, 2018, by Mathew Ingram)
