FAC Receives Three-Year, $375,000 Grant From Jonathan Logan Family Foundation

Jonathan Logan FoundationThe First Amendment Coalition today announced that the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation has committed $375,000 over the next three years to support FAC’s work defending free speech and the public’s right to know.

“FAC is grateful to the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation for this vital and substantial gift, which provides us with a solid foundation from which to expand our work,” said FAC Executive Director David Snyder. “The fact that Jon Logan first supported our organization in 2014 and has guaranteed his foundation’s support over an extended period of time going forward speaks volumes to the foundation’s commitment to open and accountable government, free speech and aggressive, independent journalism.”

The Logan grant will provide $125,000 per year in 2018, 2019 and 2020, with $50,000 each year coming in the form of a matching grant, which encourages FAC to raise that amount in funds to receive the final disbursement.

The Logan Foundation made the grant to support all of FAC’s programs, including its free Legal Hotline, its litigation program and its Subpoena Defense Initiative, which connects journalists facing subpoenas for their confidential sources or notes with qualified, pro bono counsel.

“It has never been more important to stand up for the First Amendment — to fight the fight FAC wages every day,” said Jonathan Logan, founder and CEO of the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation.  “Our democracy depends on strong journalism, effective activism and, at the most basic level, the ability of the people to know what the government is doing in their name. The Foundation is committed to standing with FAC in fighting for our constitution and our democracy in these perilous and divisive times.”

The Logan gift comes on top of foundation support in 2017 from the Craig Newmark Philanthropic Foundation, Will Hearst, the Raymond Pryke Foundation, First Look Media, Inc., the Central Valley Fund, and many other substantial gifts from individual donors.

FAC is now at work meeting the Logan $50,000 match for 2018. You can contribute now via the secure donation page, PayPal, or by check mailed to FAC at 534 4th Street, Suite B, San Rafael, CA 94901.
