Apple shuts down uncensored secure networks in China

Apple has complied with the Chinese government and removed popular VPN apps from its China store. A VPN is a virtual private network that allows users to send and receive information in a shared or pubic network. The VPNs in China allowed users to receive uncensored news. Many observers think that if China continues to shut down websites to quell dissent, they will damage their standing in the international business community. The British company ExpressVPN criticized Apple’s decision as promoting censorship and a threat to free speech and civil liberties. Apple has suggested that Chinese users can still download VPN apps in overseas app stores using a billing address outside China. (advox, July 31, 2017, by Oiwan Lam)

  • All VPN providers other than Express, Ivacy, Purevpn, ipvanish and even small VPN providers should strongly condemn this act and fight for online privacy.
