The Electronic Frontier Foundation outlined five areas for concern in promoting transparency for 2017: threats against whistleblowers including journalists; rewarding officials who lied to investigators including former CIA Director David Petraeus, Director of Intelligence James Clapper and current CIA Director John Brennan; failure of Congress to investigate domestic spying; retaliation against civilian journalists who record instances of police violence; and secret international trade agreements.
