Drone killings still operate in secret with support from federal appeals court

The American Civil Liberties Union failed to convince the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia to order the release of information about the federal government’s targeted killings using drones. The ACLU wanted details of the attacks including the dates, locations and the number of people killed as well as the legal justifications for the attacks. The Court said that the CIA had properly classified the information and as such it could not be released for national security reasons. President Barack Obama said in March he would release details about the strikes and later said that transparency over the drone strikes was “a legitimate concern” but has not yet  set up a way to report on the drone war.  (Politico, April 21, 2016, by Josh Gerstein)
