Federal judge orders release of Guantanamo hunger-strike videotapes

A federal district judge ruled that the Obama administration must release 32 videotapes of the force-feeding of a former Guantanamo Bay prisoner. The International Red Cross considers the force-feeding torture. The judge found the administration’s arguments against release lacking and criticized the military of being “a law unto itself.”(Newsweek, October 28, 2015, by Lauren Walker)

Judge Gladys Kessler first ordered the release of the videotapes in October of 2014. The government asked her to reconsider claiming that releasing the classified videos would lead to attacks against U.S. personnel and encourage Guantanamo prisoners to resist.
