The Los Angeles Times reports today that a federal grand jury in Los Angeles has begun issuing subpoenas in a case involving a Missouri teenager, Megan Meier, who hanged herself after being rejected by a person she thought was a 16-year-old boy, “Josh Evans,” whom she had met on MySpace. According to the Times, Josh Evans was actually Lori Drew, a neighbor who befriended Megan by pretending, online, to be 16-year-old Evans.

According to the Times, prosecutors in the U.S. attorney’s office in LA are considering charging Drew with defrauding MySpace by creating a false account. The LA U.S. attorney’s office is involved, according to the Times, because MySpace is headquartered in Beverly Hills.
