Media wants live broadcast of April U.S. Supreme Court hearing on same sex marriage

National media organizations are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow audio-visual coverage of its hearing on the same-sex marriage cases. In an historic session, the high court is hearing four cases in April on the constitutionality of state laws that allow same-sex marriages.(Legal Times, January 29, 2015, by Tony Mauro)

A letter to Chief Justice John Roberts from the Coalition of Court Transparency stated the importance of a live broadcast, “And while the cases affect millions of people’s everyday lives, only those present in the courtroom that day will get to see and hear the oral arguments as they happen. As a result, we write to you today to respectfully request that audio-visual coverage of oral arguments in the same-sex marriage cases be broadcast live, enabling the world to witness history as it happens.” (National Press Photographers Association, January 28, 2015, press release)
